Career Development for Community Adult Educators: Interrelating Personal and Professional Development

Career development programs have emerged recently as one answer to the varied needs of a changing workforce. This qualitative case study examined participants' experiences in a career development program aimed at personal and professional development for community adult educators. Twelve community adult educators participated in the Kellogg Career Enhancement Award Program at the University of Georgia (UGA), which allowed them to pursue activities and attend group seminars that enhanced both their personal and professional lives. Data were gathered from document materials, participant observation, and interviews. A cross-case analysis of the interviews revealed that both personal and professional lives were affected and that there is an interrelationship between personal and professional development.
